Inventor Community Spotlight: Sal Castro (@salcastrodc2)
This week’s Inventor Community Spotlight goes to someone who lives life in the fast lane—literally and creatively: Sal Castro, known in the Inventor Smart Community as @salcastrodc2.
Based in San Jose, California, Sal brings an unstoppable energy to everything he does. A racecar driver and former medical field soldier, Sal is now channeling that drive into his invention journey, blending precision, performance, and passion into every step of the process.
Sal is actively working on prototypes and offers services in 2D/3D animation and 3D modeling to help others bring their ideas to life too. He’s sparked conversations in the community around production timelines, crowdfunding, and connecting with local inventors—especially those in the North Bay Area.
As Sal says:
“We are in the Niche of NICHES.”
That mindset reflects his understanding that true innovation often lives in the overlooked spaces—where niche solutions create big impact.

🗓 On This Day in Inventor History
📅 Monday, May 12
Happy birthday to Dorothy Hodgkin (1910–1994) — the British chemist and Nobel Prize-winning scientist who used X-ray crystallography to map the structures of vital biomolecules, including penicillin, vitamin B12, and insulin.
Her breakthrough work not only advanced modern medicine but helped make life-saving treatments possible for millions. In 1964, she became the first British woman to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry—and remains one of the few women in history to do so.
Hodgkin reminds us that invention often starts with patience, curiosity, and the courage to keep asking difficult questions.
