Hello Inventor Smart Community,

What question is holding up your invention right now?

You may be deciding whether to license your idea or manufacture the product yourself. You may be preparing to pitch a company, investing in a prototype, researching patents, or trying to understand what should happen next.

The answer depends on your invention, the work you have already completed, and the outcome you are working toward.

Tonight, Premium Insider members can bring those questions directly to Brian Fried, “The Inventor Coach.”

Ask the Inventor Coach: Live Q&A with Brian Fried

Thursday, July 30
7:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT
Live on Google Meet
Premium Insider Exclusive

This is a small-group, open Q&A where you can ask Brian about your invention and receive practical guidance based on your current stage.

Premium Insiders will see the Join on Google Meet button directly on the event page.

What Can You Ask Brian?

Your question can relate to any part of the invention process.

You can use tonight’s session to:

  • Ask how to decide between licensing and manufacturing.

  • Discuss what you should have ready before pitching a company.

  • Get guidance on prototypes, product development, and testing.

  • Ask what patent or market research may be appropriate at your stage.

  • Discuss how to find and approach potential licensees.

  • Get feedback on your pitch, presentation materials, or product positioning.

  • Ask what you should consider before spending more money.

  • Identify a practical next step that fits your invention.

You do not need a polished presentation, and you do not need to reveal confidential details that you are not ready to share.

You only need to bring a clear question and enough background for Brian to understand where you are in the process.

Why This Conversation Can Help

Inventors can become emotionally connected to their ideas, which is understandable. You created something and can see the possibilities.

However, each invention also needs to be evaluated as a business.

Before you spend more time, money, energy, and effort, you should understand what you are trying to prove and which step makes sense now.

One inventor may need to complete more market research before filing anything. Another may already have enough information to begin developing a prototype. Someone else may be ready to approach companies but needs a stronger presentation.

The smartest next step will not be the same for every inventor.

A live conversation can help you sort through the options and avoid moving forward simply because a particular service, filing, or expense appears to be the next step.

Prepare One Strong Question

Take a few minutes before the session and write down one question that gives Brian enough information to help you.

You can use this simple format:

“My invention is currently at the _____ stage. I have already completed _____. I am now deciding between _____ and _____. What would you recommend as my next step?”

For example:

“I have completed an initial product search and built a homemade prototype. Should I get customer feedback first, pay for a professional patent search, or begin working with an engineer?”

You could also ask:

  • “What should I include when I first contact a potential licensee?”

  • “How do I know if my prototype is ready for a pitch?”

  • “What should I understand before speaking with a manufacturer?”

  • “How can I tell whether my invention fits a large market or a smaller niche?”

  • “What should I improve before presenting my product to a company?”

  • “Am I ready to move forward, or do I need more research?”

A specific question gives Brian the opportunity to provide a more focused answer.
