🌟 Community Spotlight: Dr. Tina (@Dr. Tina)

This week, we’re spotlighting Dr. Tina (Alevtina Malakova) — a general dentist, passionate educator, and inventive mind behind a smart solution for toothbrush design.

🪥 Her invention? A patented toothbrush with replaceable bristle-heads stored directly in the handle, a cleaner, more efficient, and eco-conscious way to maintain oral hygiene. She's currently seeking a company to license this innovation, so if you’re connected in dental product manufacturing, now’s the time to reach out.

🎓 But Dr. Tina didn’t stop at inventing, she also created DentalStaffPrep.com, an easy-to-understand, unbiased online dental course designed for the curious and for dental offices looking to train their teams.

💡 Inventor Tip of the Week — Think Like a Company

One of the biggest mindset shifts for inventors?
You’re not just a creative thinker, you’re also a problem solver for businesses.

Instead of focusing only on your idea, start thinking about how it fits into an existing product line. Imagine you're the marketing director or product manager at a company. Ask yourself:

  • Would this invention help me grow sales?

  • Does it complement what my company already sells?

  • Would it stand out on a store shelf, or feel like a risk?

Inventors often fall in love with their ideas. But licensing success comes when you think like the people you’re pitching to.

“Don’t just pitch your product, pitch how it helps them grow.” — Brian Fried, Inventing Secrets Revealed

📌 Pro tip: When you find a company you want to pitch to, study their current product catalog. Your goal is to help them picture your invention as the “next product” in their lineup, not a totally foreign concept.

🎯 Action step: Pick one company you’d love to license to. Go to their website, find their latest product release, and write 3 bullet points showing how your invention could be the next evolution of that product.

The more you speak their language, the closer you are to hearing yes.

🧠 Tip adapted from Brian Fried’s book Inventing Secrets Revealed (Inventor Smart Publishing).

🌟 Inventors Got Talent 2025 – Watch the Replay!

What a show! Over a dozen National Inventor Club members hit the virtual stage to pitch inventions ranging from floating lessons to diaper hacks, and the creativity did not disappoint. 🎤👏

🗓️ On This Day in Inventor History — Monday, July 28

The Birth of the Typewriter
July 28, 1868 – The first U.S. patent for a practical typewriting machine was issued to Christopher Latham Sholes.
📜 U.S. Patent No. 79,265

Sholes, a newspaper editor and printer from Milwaukee, co-invented the device that would become known as the typewriter, a tool that revolutionized communication, office work, publishing, and eventually led to the modern keyboard we still use today.

The patent marked the beginning of a new era for inventors and entrepreneurs alike: the rise of mass communication and personal productivity tools.

Why It Matters to Today’s Inventors

🖨️ Sholes didn’t invent typing, he invented a better way to do it. His device sped up documentation, helped businesses scale, and created entirely new professions (like the typist and stenographer).

 Modern takeaway?
Sometimes it’s not about inventing a new category, it’s about improving the way we already do things.

Ask yourself:

  • 🔍 Can your invention make a tedious process easier, faster, or more accessible?

  • 🧠 What old tools are ready for a 21st-century upgrade?

Small mechanisms. Big shifts.
Sholes’ typewriter wasn’t just a machine, it was a launchpad for new industries.
